This story is a heartbreaker! Your poetic analysis of the Ethel Cain album conjures up an entire world living just beneath the surface of the music. While her songs tell a haunting story full of pain and tragedy, paradoxically some of the imagery you’ve described is also stunningly beautiful. The intensity, honesty, and vulnerability of her music is strengthened by your ability to illuminate the complexity and depth of the musician’s interior world. Thank you for writing this piece that pulls at the heartstrings. To describe the otherworldly nature of music in essay form is a hard task; you’re quite gifted with the written word!
